Use cases

Apromore can be used to drive change and transformation along different performance dimensions, but first and foremost, Apromore gives you the keys to “open” your business operations – to gain that transparency that is key to any operational excellence or digital transformation initiative. Once you have a good grasp of your operations, you can start identifying opportunities for improving organizational performance along dimensions such as efficiency & productivity, quality & customer experience, governance, risk & compliance, and agility.

The 5 Why’s of Process Mining (after Kirchmer, Franz, Rosemann: “Value-Driven BPM”, 2011)

Achieve Transparency

Transparency is the first and foremost value of process mining. With Apromore you can expose your processes as they really are, not as you may imagine them. You can back up your hypotheses with evidence and debunk common myths around your operations.

Use a range of automated process discovery algorithms to reverse-engineer your process flows from event logs. Focus on common behavior vs outliers, and measure activity and handoffs frequency to spot anomalies. Capture your “as-is” process using process maps or BPMN models and use these models as input for analysis. Go beyond process models: discover the social network of interactions among the resources or roles involved in your process, the lifecycles of business objects and much more.

Improve Efficiency & Productivity

With Apromore you can uncover process frictions such as bottlenecks and constraints, and quantify their effect on your key performance indicators. You can expose your sources of waste and root causes of poor performance, in order to gain operational efficiency and increase productivity. You can also identify opportunities for automation at the activity level (e.g. via Robotic Process Automation), and at the process level (e.g. via a BPM System).

Use performance mining techniques to assess activity processing times and waiting times, identify bottlenecks, resource workload, rework, over-processing and other sources of waste. Profile your process performance by overlaying statistics on top of the discovered models (using process maps, BPMN models, social networks or any other process perspective). Build custom dashboards to visualize your process performance at an aggregate statistical level using a variety of charts and tables.

Enhance Quality & Customer Experience

Apromore let you extract actionable insights to improve quality of service and customer experience, by analyzing different process variants. You can identify root causes of delays (e.g. missed deadlines) and other errors by contrasting positive with negative deviances.

Use variant analysis techniques to segregate different process variants along logical drivers such as customer or product type, or geographic area, or along performance drivers (fast vs slow cases), and contrast the variants based on their flows, bottlenecks, frequency or rework, to identify root causes for deviations. Use comparative dashboards to contrast process variants on a statistical level.

Monitor Risk & Compliance

Apromore enables you to detect compliance violations and potential risks, and assess their impact on your process performance and corporate governance. You can compare the actual process discovered from your log against business rules that capture policies or regulations, and process models that represent normative or prescriptive behavior.

Use conformance checking techniques to compare normative or prescriptive specifications in the form of process models or business rules with your “as-is” process, as discovered from your logs. Identify discrepancies on a temporal or resource-allocation level, or on the order in which process activities are carried out, which could reveal non-compliance issues, and assess their impact on process performance and on corporate governance.

Facilitate Agility

With Apromore you can identify and characterize undocumented change in your process over time. You can also use a range of predictive and prescriptive analytics to predict and tune process performance as your process cases unfold, in order to exceed customer expectations.

Use change analysis, a type of variant analysis, to segregate different process variants temporally (e.g. before, during and after a crisis) and compare the variants based on their flows, bottlenecks, frequency or rework, to identify sources of agility. Use the discovered BPMN models to simulate different what-if scenarios and assess how your process performance would be impacted by expected or unexpected changes. Support live operations via predictive and prescriptive analytics.
